Short version: we only recommend gear that independent testers rated well and that makes sense in a real kitchen. Here’s how it works.
- 25 years of professional kitchen experience behind every pick
- Every performance claim linked to a named, independent tester
- Zero paid placements: brands can’t buy a spot or a ranking
- Prices checked when a guide is written or updated
1. We start with the job, not the product
Chef Tamás has cooked in restaurants, hotels and a river cruise ship galley in four countries. Before we look at a single product, he answers one question: what does this tool actually have to do on a busy day? A knife has to hold an edge through a pile of onions. Tongs have to grip without tiring your hand. A stockpot has to be light enough to lift when it’s full. That list becomes our checklist.
2. We read the independent tests
We don’t run a lab, and we won’t pretend to. Instead, we read the results from people who do: test kitchens, review labs and specialist reviewers. We only use a result when we can name and link the source. If good testers disagree, we tell you.
3. The chef makes the call
Test scores don’t know what a Saturday night service feels like. Tamás checks the top-rated options against his own experience and decides what earns a spot. When a note comes from him, it’s marked as his, and it’s real. We never say he used a product he didn’t.
4. Three kinds of picks
| Label | What it means |
|---|---|
| Top pick | The best all-round choice for most home cooks. |
| Budget pick | Does the job well for less money. Usually where we’d start. |
| Chef’s pick | What Tamás reaches for himself, or the same type of tool. |
5. How the site makes money
When you buy through a button on this site, the store may pay us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it never decides what we recommend. If the cheaper option is the better buy, that’s the one we tell you about. Details are in our Affiliate Disclosure.
6. About Gerzsi
Gerzsi, the beaver apprentice, and his kitchen mishaps are made up and drawn for fun. The product facts next to him never are.
