Truffle’s story

Truffle runs the vegetable shelf. Everyone expects her to hunt truffles. She hunts carrots.

  • Peels a potato in one long ribbon.
  • Washes salad greens three times. Spins them dry twice.
  • Will not discuss bacon. Ever.

Truffle arrived at the Riverbank Inn on a cart full of cabbages, and she has not left since.

On her first day, Reggie the raccoon asked whether she had come to find truffles. She looked at him for a long time. Then she said, “I find carrots. Very good carrots.”

Truffle does not eat pork, and she would rather not talk about it. When the kitchen makes pörkölt, she makes the nokedli, peels the onions and stands as far from the pot as the kitchen allows.

What she loves is a good peeler. She can peel a potato in one long ribbon, and she keeps a drawer of peelers she calls “the team”.

Chef Tamás once let her plan a whole vegetable menu. Nobody missed the meat. Truffle mentions this about twice a day.
